Art Saint Louis is proud to announce the juror of the upcoming Art St. Louis XXVIII, the Exhibition, Mr. Richard V. West. With an extensive resume and a variety of interests in art, Mr. West is an art historian, curator, author, and Director Emeritus of the Frye Art Museum in Seattle, Washington.  Native to Prague, Czech Republic, Mr. West studied in Austria and the United States before earning his master’s degree in art history from the University of California at Berkeley. Over the last 45 years he has served as Director for numerous galleries and museums across the U.S.

Art Saint Louis participates in July 6 ArtD Tour

Please join Art Saint Louis as we participate in the July 6, 2012 ArtD Tour. Select one of two Routes on which to travel and visit local galleries: Choose to visit Art Saint Louis, Soulard Contemporary Art Market and Concrete Ocean galleries on Route B or Gateway Gallery, Craft Alliance Delmar Loop and Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum on Route A.

The event begins with check-in from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at The Sheldon Art Galleries in Grand Center. Free parking at Grand Center Parking. Shuttles will depart for Routes A or B from 6:30-7 p.m. Prior to boarding your bus or shuttle, you'll also be able to visit The Pulitzer and CAMSTL.

You can travel on a school bus for $20 per guest (in advance) or $25 (walk-up) OR you can travel in the luxury of an air-conditioned bus equipped with restroom for $30 (in advance) or $35 (walk-up).

Enjoy an After Party (free with ArtD Tour ticket) from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at ArtDimensions, 2720 Cherokee Street. Party includes live music, door prizes, fine art & food.

Presenting 'Blur' and 'Over the Edge'

Please join us on Saturday evening, June 9, from 6-8 p.m. for a free reception! All are welcome to join us in the Gallery to mingle, enjoy excellent artwork and meet some of the featured artists in both of our new exhibits.

The opening reception will feature live music by Silk Pajamas Jazz Duo and delicious food for sale by food trucks Completely Sauced and The Sausage Syndicate, both of which will be parked on Washington Avenue in front of the Gallery. Complimentary beverages will be served inside the Gallery.


About the Exhibit

Blur is a multi-media juried exhibition that features 74 new artworks by 61 St. Louis regional artists from Missouri and Illinois. The works in this exhibit address the theme of blur with a variety of responses including the blurring of concepts as well as artworks that are visually blurry.

Serving as jurors for this exhibit were artists Bill Barrett and Jane Barrow. Bill Barrett is Director of the May Gallery at Webster University, St. Louis, MO, and is also Professor in the Department of Electronic & Photographic Media, School of Communications at Webster University. Jane Barrow is Professor of Art and Head of the Painting Program at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in Edwardsville, IL. For this exhibit, 101 artists submitted 178 artworks for our jurors' consideration. From those entries, Mr. Barrett and Ms. Barrow selected 74 works in all media by 61 artists for the final exhibit. The media featured in this show includes collage, drawing, glass, mixed media, painting, printmaking, photography, stone sculpture, and more.

Voices 2012 Artist Residency

Art Saint Louis proudly presents our 2012 "Voices" program at The Wilson School, an early childhood & elementary school in Clayton, MO. Our Artist-in-Residence portion of the program runs May 7-18, 2012 and culminates with a special artist-student exhibition this Fall.

Serving as Artists-in-Residence for our 2012 program are Art Saint Louis member artists Megan Rieke and Russell Vanecek. Meg is working with Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and 1st Graders; Russell is working with 2nd through 6th graders.

A Mother of a Potluck!

Saturday, May 12, the day before Mother’s Day, provides another occasion to enjoy great food and art in downtown St. Louis. We cordially invite you to a casual, community-wide potluck and recipe swap at the Art Saint Louis gallery. What better way to ring in Mother’s Day than to enjoy a smorgasbord of home cooking and original artworks inspired by food! Adding to the flavor of the evening will be door prizes by Foodie STL, wine tastings by Stone Hill Winery, and live art by Henryk Ptasiewicz and Megan Rieke.

Everyone is warmly invited to participate in this special event. Whether you are bringing a dish or just your appetite, event admission is free, however, reservations are necessary. 1) Your name and the name(s) of any guest(s) you plan to bring with you

A Few Important Details

- All dishes must provide a minimum of six servings.

- No soups, chili or dishes with red sauce. This is for the safety of artworks, walls and pedestals in the gallery. 

- Potluck contributors must provide serving dishes and serving utensils (serving spoons, spatulas, etc.) AND at least 10 printed copies of the recipe, including ingredient list. Sorry, no secret recipes allowed!

- Hot dishes must be brought pre-heated and ready to serve.

- Art Saint Louis will provide ice, cups, flatware and napkins.
