Richard V. West to Jury 28th Annual Exhibit

Mr. West has curated over 25 exhibits in the U.S. These exhibits unite his passion for fine art as well as popular culture. Exhibits like Munich and American Realism in the Nineteenth Century (1978) and Children of the Yellow Kid: The Evolution of the American Comic Strip are just two of many examples of how Mr. West bonded his interests. More recently was the acclaimed 2007 exhibit, The Line That Roars: Editorial Cartoons in the Age of Anxiety, which featured approximately 200 original artworks from outstanding cartoonists David Norwood, Steve Kelley, and David Horsey, in order to illustrate the power and effectiveness of editorial cartoons in American life. Additionally, Mr. West has served on the Professional Practices Committee of the College Art Association and the Ethics & Standards Committee of the Association of Art Museum Directors.

As of late, Mr. West has directed his attention to exhibitions, essays, and lectures that highlight the work of contemporary artists—artists such as Odd Nerdum and Mark Ryden, who redefine the boundaries of representation. Most recently, he has lectured at Gage Academy of Art where he holds a place on the Board of Trustees and at Frye Art Museum as well. There he again showed his varying interests in art by lecturing on German painting between the World Wars and on satire in contemporary art. Mr. West has juried and co-juried national and regional exhibits, including Watercolor USA, Art Maui and Expressions West. He also served as a guest curator for the Miami Art Fair.

At this time, Mr. West is in the process of many projects. He is working on two new lectures: one on the evolution of American landscape painting, and the other on trompe l’oeil painting’s history. Most notably, Mr. West is preparing a monograph on American painter and illustrator Rockwell Kent.

Art Saint Louis is thrilled to welcome Richard West and could not be more grateful to be working with him.
Art Saint Louis XXVIII, the Exhibition is sure to be an outstanding exhibit.
