A great night for art in St. Louis

Taking time here to publicly acknowledge the superb work of our Artistic Director, Robin Hirsch, and that of our jurors, Joe Chesla, Professor of Design & Sculpture, St. Louis Community College, Meramec, and Jo Stealey, Professor, University of Missouri-Columbia. Last weekend their work and the creative talents of over 40 regional artists took center stage at the opening reception for our newest exhibit [context]Texture. Photos from the reception and from the exhibit itself can be viewed on our Facebook page here.

Photo by Robin Hirsch. As usual, I took advantage of the occasion to stand in front of several works of art with the artist by my side, discussing the process and inspiration behind each work. Seriously, this is one of the most rewarding aspects of my activity here at Art Saint Louis. My thanks go out to everyone involved in this exhibition (which runs through October 4, by the way), as well as our concurrent exhibition, Waiting, featuring works by watercolorist Muriel Eulich.

It was downright slammed. And understandably so – it’s a strikingly beautiful collection of works by an accomplished artist addressing a deeply profound subject: Breast Cancer. The artist’s statement on the experience of creating this body of works is definitely a worthy read. You can view it here.

Congratulations to our Award of Excellence winners, Jeff Hursey, Manda Remmen, Megan Rieke, Russ Rosener, and Dan Scott, and to the artists whose work was purchased during the reception, Robert Crowe, Muriel Eulich, Jeff Hursey, Jimmy Liu, and Carol Mariott. It’s always great to see this organization facilitating that kind connection between artist and patron.

Don’t miss this show. It offers quite a lot to enjoy, including a richly diverse array of mediums and textures.
