Human Nature: His/Hers
  January 19 - February 19, 2009

This multi-media juried exhibit features works by 56 St. Louis regional artists. Works presented in this show address the nature of men & women--their relationships, the stereotypes, gender traits & cultural assumptions during all stages of life; and/or works that examine the human search for identity and relationships. Juried by Bruno David, owner, Director, Bruno David Gallery, St. Louis, and artist Lindsey Stouffer, Visiting Assistant Professor, Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, Washington University in St. Louis.

 

Varsity Art XIII
  March 3 – 13, 2009
Thirteenth annual group exhibition curated by art faculties from 15 Midwest regional colleges and universities. Each institution selects one or two outstanding art students to exhibit up to two artworks in this multi-media show. Presented as a collaborative project, students work together on all aspects of the exhibition.

 

Lobby Gallery Featured Artist
  March 4 – April 23, 2009
This solo exhibit in the ASL Little Gallery features paintings by Art Saint Louis member artist Julie Malone.

 

Honor Awards 2009
  March 24 – April 23, 2009
This multi-media curated exhibition features works by ten Award of Excellence recipients from Art Saint Louis' 2008 juried exhibition season. Curated by nationally exhibited artist Judy Child, St. Louis.


Honor Awards—Varsity Art XIII
  March 24 – April 23, 2009
Ten award-winning artists selected from this year's Varsity Art XIII exhibition are featured in this exhibited presented concurrently with the Honor Awards 2009 exhibit.


Out Of The Blue
  May 19 - June 25, 2009

Works that investigate blue--the color, emotions, symbols, associations and/or sudden revelations. Blue paint, blue skies, Little Boy Blue, out of the blue, the blues, bluebird of happiness, blue planet. 133 artists submitted 219 artworks for this juried exhibit from which our jurors selected 67 works by 61 artists for exhibition. Juried by artists Michael Byron, Professor, Associate Dean of Faculty, Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Art, Washington University in St. Louis, and Douglass Freed, former Director, Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, Sedalia, MO.


Minding the Gap
  July 20-August 27, 2009

Works that examine neglected negative space, empty spaces or the missing subject. This multi-media juried exhibit presents 68 original artworks by 52 Missouri & Illinois artists. Juried by artists Brad Loudenback, Associate Professor, Webster University, St. Louis, MO, and Bill Yonker, Director of Exhibitions, Messing Gallery of Contemporary Art, MICDS, St. Louis, MO.

Opening reception: 6-8 p.m., July 18, 2009

 

Fiber Focus 2009
 September 14 - October 15, 2009

Biennial contemporary fiber exhibit open to artists in Missouri and the eight bordering states: Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Nebraska, Oklahoma & Tennessee. Juror: Dr. Alice M. Zrebiec, curatorial consultant based in Santa Fe and consulting curator of Textile Art for the Denver Art Museum. Juried by jpegs on one CD (CD must be Mac AND PC compatible; jpegs only; RGB color; minimum 800x800 pixels and not to exceed 1200x1200 pixels). Limit 5 artworks created in the past 2 years (2007-2009). $30 entry fee. Postmark deadline for entries (form, jpegs on cd, fee): July 7, 2009.

Juror's Gallery Talk & Opening reception: 6-9 p.m., September 25, 2009

Fiber Focus 2009 is part of Innovations in Texitles 8, a biennial collaborative event in St. Louis, MO, that investigates the state of contemporary textile arts. Nineteen nonprofit & private arts organizations join forces to present exhibitions related to fiber art created by national and international artists. Activities include workshops, lectures, gallery tours, and community programs. Innovations in Textiles 8 serves to enlighten the community with a unique aesthetic prospective on fiber art featuring various materials and techniques. The broad range of programming offered mirrors the symposium’s dedication to the investigation of innovative ideas.
