White Washed-Shades of White
July 21–August 23 , 2007

This juried exhibit was open to artists residing in the St. Louis region (including a 200-mile radius). Artists were asked to submit artworks in all media and styles that explore our culture’s fascination with concealing physical, psychological, social and/or emotional flaws, as well as works that demonstrate cover-ups, or variations/degrees of white.

Serving as jurors for this exhibit were nationally exhibited artists Lisa Bulawsky, Associate Professor of Art, Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, Washington University School of Art, St. Louis and Brian D. Smith, artist, Professor of Art, St. Charles Community College. Smith’s work is represented by Duane Reed Gallery, St. Louis.

From 83 artworks submitted by 53 artists for the jurors' consideration, Lisa Bulawsky and Brian D. Smith selected 40 artworks by 31 artists for exhibition. Works in a variety of media are presented, including ceramics, drawing, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, textiles.

The jurors selected five artists’ works to receive Awards of Excellence and one Honorable Mention. Awards of Excellence receipients are Sharon Bean, David Lancaster, Shelley Muellhaupt, Tony Renner and Libby Reuter, with an Honorable Mention given to Virginia Dragschutz.
